Why we called it
For Pokémon's 30th anniversary, official League stores gave away an exclusive Bulbasaur promo card to anyone who turned up on Pokémon Day with a Trainer ID. No purchase, no tournament requirement — a QR code and a visit.
The alert went out sixteen days early with the full walkthrough: download the Play! Pokémon app, generate the ID, use the event locator to find a participating store, and sleeve the card the moment it's in hand. Free stock at £35+ a copy, multiplied by however many friends you brought.
The edge
What members knew before everyone else worked it out.
- Zero cost — the entire downside was a trip to a card shop.
- Posted two weeks in advance with the app setup and event-locator steps.
- Condition guidance included: sleeve immediately, clean copies carry the premium.
- 30th-anniversary promos have a collector base that only grows.

The takeaway
Free cards with anniversary branding are the gentlest possible introduction to flipping. The only people who got one were the ones who knew two weeks early — which is the entire point of this page.
