Why we called it
The Skullector line is Mattel's premium collector tier for Monster High, and its resale record is wildly uneven — Corpse Bride did 2.7x, while Morticia went below retail. So before the SDCC-exclusive "Ghouls Rule" Lagoona Blue dropped at £90 on Mattel Creations, the call did something most groups don't: it printed the sold-listing multiple for every Skullector ever released and told members exactly which bucket this one was likely to land in.
The honest read — a core-cast ghoul without an external licence, so temper expectations below the 2x crossovers — turned out mildly conservative. The doll sold through at the 5pm drop, and by the next day's review it was holding £140+ against the £90 retail, right in line with the projection, with Mattel's 30-day no-questions return window as the backstop for anyone whose copy didn't move.
The edge
What members knew before everyone else worked it out.
- Full Skullector resale table in the call: every release from Corpse Bride (2.7x) to Morticia (below retail).
- The trap flagged: a £30 mass-market Lagoona exists — the premium Skullector is the only one that prints.
- £90 retail, 2-per-customer limit, 5pm FCFS on Mattel Creations UK.
- £140+ confirmed holding within 24 hours; £150–200 the projected window.
- 30-day no-reason returns made the downside a postage label.
How it played out
- 23 Jul
The call, with receipts
Posted hours before the drop with the entire line's eBay sold history ranked — and a warning not to confuse it with the cheaper mass-market doll.
- 23 Jul
15-minute warning
Final ping at 16:45: logged in, card saved, ready at 17:00. The doll sells through.
- 24 Jul
Review confirms
£140+ and holding. Guidance: list now into the SDCC hype window, with the return window as the safety net.
The takeaway
Anyone can tell you a doll is limited. The edge is a table of what the last eleven limited dolls actually sold for — because that's the difference between buying two Lagoonas and buying two Morticias.
