Why we called it
This one starts with a miss, so that is where the article starts too. We had a full post drafted and ready to go out on the morning of the 8th. Argos loaded stock at 5am, when nobody on the team was awake, and it was gone before the post went live. Main online pre-orders had closed months earlier and were long sold out, so that Argos window was realistically the last easy route in.
What was left was the in-store route, and it was genuinely the better story. Boxes were landing at local game shops at around £450, sometimes higher, against roughly £650 in hand on the aftermarket. Two hundred pounds a box, and the way in was a phone call rather than a bot.
That is the part most people will not do. Independent shops routinely reserve for a regular, and almost nobody rings. Demand was already proven: everything sold through on pre-order, allocations undershot, and there were buyers sitting on cancelled orders with money to spend.
The edge
