Why we called it
Black Library limited editions are one of the quieter lanes in the Vault, and they work because the maths is boring in the best way: a signed, numbered hardback with a published print run, sold once, never reprinted. The question is never whether it holds, it is how much.
We spent the evening before the drop going through every Space Wolves limited edition on record rather than guessing. Spear of Russ £140, Young Wolf £189, Wolftime £181, a £134 median across the line. That is what produced the £100-150 target, and it is also what produced the warning attached to it: this is not Wicked and the Warped money. That book did £371 because it was the sequel to a cult classic with a £363-median predecessor. Bjorn is a first novel with no comparable, so we rated it green, not fire.
Day one it sold at a £112 median across roughly two dozen completed sales, in a £84-136 band, while still on presale. Around £60 a copy, right through the middle of the band we published.
The edge
What members knew before everyone else worked it out.
- Signed by Justin D Hill, one per account, and the pre-order window is the only window.
- Called at ~£50 in with a £100-150 target, from a £134 median across four Space Wolves limited editions.
- Rated green rather than fire, with the reason stated: no cult predecessor, lukewarm Reddit thread, first novel.
- Fourteen days free Royal Mail returns and cancellable before dispatch, so the downside was postage and patience.
- Day one: ~£112 median, £84-136 range, roughly £60 a copy on a book that had not shipped yet.
How it played out

The call goes out
Posted the night before with the full comparison set, the risk rating, and an instruction to be on the page from 09:45.
- 8 Aug
Drop morning
Members refresh the Black Library pre-order page rather than the product link, which GW block. Sells out in the usual few minutes.
- 8 Aug
Day one comps
Two dozen presale sales land between £84 and £136, median ~£112. The recap goes out the same evening.
- 22 Aug
Ships
Copies dispatch. The hold-past-week-12 advice stands, since the predecessors stepped up rather than decayed.
The takeaway
A £100-150 call that lands beats a £300 call that does not, and this is why we publish the honest number instead of the exciting one. The same analysis that said buy also said do not expect Wicked and Warped money, and both halves turned out to be right.
