Why we called it
Not every calendar runs the Harrods script, and the Selfridges Beauty edition spent September proving it. Called on 1 September at £250, it produced one early sale at £325 and then went quiet, at which point the feed used the word bricky in public rather than nursing the position silently.
October rewrote it. By the 8th it was clearing £271-305 daily with no decay, a steady £25-55 a unit on a product still buyable at points through September. The honest early read and the honest later one are both part of the record.
The edge
What members knew before everyone else worked it out.
- £250 in, one early £325 print, then a quiet month.
- Called bricky in September, which the data at the time supported.
- October: £271-305 daily and stable, against the usual calendar decay.
- The slower burn suited patient sellers over quick flippers, the reverse of Harrods.
- Two calendars, two opposite arcs, both printed as they happened.
How it played out
- 1 Sep
The call
Posted at £250 alongside the rest of the advent slate.
- 8 Sep
One print, then quiet
A £325 sale lands, then volume dries. The feed says bricky.
- 8 Oct
The October read
Clearing £271-305 daily with no decay. The early read is revised in public.
The takeaway
Harrods front-loaded its margin and decayed; Selfridges did the opposite. Publishing the bricky call and then the recovery is worth more than either in isolation, because it is how the lane actually behaves.
