Why we called it
New Balance UK was the only stockist. Nothing at END, size?, JD, Hanon, SNS, BSTN or Slam Jam, which is unusual for a JJJJound collaboration and is the entire reason it worked. One colourway, one route in, first come first served at 09:00.
The other thing worth clearing up was the naming. Mushroom, Beige, Taupe and Stoneware were all being used by different outlets for the same shoe. There was nothing to chase and no better version to hold out for.
On drop morning we pulled the stock numbers from New Balance's backend: 143 pairs total across UK 7 to 12, with the deepest buckets at 9.5 with 24 pairs and 18 each at 8.5, 9 and 10. On a national release with free thirty day returns, that made it a straightforward yes. A member's first sale went at £250 within two hours.
The edge
What members knew before everyone else worked it out.
- £120 retail against £165-215, with one confirmed member sale at £250 on drop morning.
- 143 pairs in total across the entire UK size run, pulled from the retailer backend rather than guessed at.
- New Balance UK was the only stockist. No END, size?, JD, Hanon, SNS, BSTN or Slam Jam.
- Thirty days free returns from delivery, unworn and in original condition, so anything that did not sell went back.
- Free membership gave free shipping, and student or full-price codes stacked on top for another ten percent.

The takeaway
Knowing there were only 143 pairs in the country before the drop went live is the difference between hoping and deciding. It is also the difference between a 1 out of 5 risk rating and a guess, because with free returns underneath it the only real question was whether it would sell out, and 143 pairs answers that.
