A restricted Vinted account has had one or more features switched off, such as listing, selling, withdrawals or messages, while the account itself stays open. A ban blocks the whole account, so your items come off the catalogue and you can only contact support and finish pending orders and payouts. A restriction tied to a check, such as email or ID verification, lifts when you complete the check, and one imposed for breaking the rules comes with a written notice giving the reason and the way to appeal.
What is the difference between a Vinted restriction and a ban?
Vinted’s Terms list both as corrective actions, which run from a warning or a hidden listing up to blocking a feature on your account, with messages as the example, and blocking the account itself for a period or for good. Once an account is blocked you can only contact customer support, and pending orders and payouts can still complete, though a block over security or fraud can cancel them or restrict the payout. Vinted may use automated tools to detect breaches, and it tells you in writing when it acts, including how to appeal.
Checks are a separate thing. The Terms let Vinted ask at any time to verify your phone number, email or payment method, and the features a check covers stay off until you complete it.
| What you are seeing | How to lift it |
|---|---|
| Email verification required | Enter the 6-digit code Vinted emails you, which is valid for 30 minutes. You can still withdraw meanwhile. |
| ID check from the payment provider | Upload the documents it asks for. Until then, withdrawals can be blocked. |
| Account locked after unusual activity | Prove you own it with a payment card photo or a bank statement showing Vinted payments. |
| A listing hidden | Edit it to meet the Catalogue Rules and it reappears, with no appeal needed. |
| A feature blocked for a rule breach | Read the notice for the reason, and appeal once through its link within 6 months if it is wrong. |
| Commercial selling | Sign up as a Vinted Pro seller, which Vinted requires of anyone selling for profit. |
| Withdrawal failing | Check the bank account is in your Vinted Balance name, with an 8-digit account number and 6-digit sort code. |
Why is my Vinted account restricted from selling?
Selling and listing restrictions follow breaches of the Catalogue Rules. A listing that breaks them is hidden or removed first, with a message saying why, and repeatedly uploading prohibited or seemingly commercial items can get the account suspended, with 7 days as the example given, or blocked for good. One counterfeit listing is enough on its own, because Vinted’s authenticity page says it removes the listing and suspends the account.
Commercial selling is the rule that catches resellers. Vinted’s commercial selling page says a standard account cannot be used to buy or source items and resell them at a profit, and that anyone selling for profit needs a Pro account. Vinted may restrict an account that breaks this, and ban it permanently if a warning is ignored. Converting to Vinted Pro is the fix it names, open in the UK to sole traders, charities and registered companies.
Tip · Edit a hidden listing within 24 hours
Make the change Vinted’s message asks for and the listing reappears, with no appeal needed. The Catalogue Rules give you 24 hours, and deleting and relisting the same item over and over breaks the Terms in its own right.
Can you withdraw money while your Vinted account is restricted?
That depends on the restriction. An email verification restriction still lets you withdraw. An identity check works the other way, because until you complete the payment provider’s Know Your Customer check it can stop withdrawals and block your balance for purchases. It may ask for a passport or driving licence, a selfie, a bank statement or proof of address.
If a withdrawal fails with no notice, check the ordinary causes first. The bank account must be in the name on your Vinted Balance, the account number needs 8 digits and the sort code 6, and an account linked to another profile is refused. The money stays in your balance when a withdrawal fails. Permanent bans have their own rules, covered in can you withdraw money if Vinted bans you.
Warning · Use only your own documents
Vinted’s ID page warns that suspicious or fake documents can get withdrawals permanently blocked or the account banned. Send your own passport or driving licence, clear, complete and in date, and never let anyone else pass the check for you.
Why can’t you send messages on Vinted?
Messages are the example Vinted’s Terms give of a feature it can block. They are for exchanging information about an item, and the Terms rule out advertisements, malware and mass messages to 5 or more members. Promoting selling outside Vinted’s payment system, and offensive behaviour towards members or support, are also on its list of temporary ban reasons, so keep every conversation about the item and on Vinted.
If messages fail with one member only, that member may have blocked you, which stops you messaging them or buying their items and is separate from any block on your account. A block from Vinted comes with a notice, and the appeal link sits in it.
What does it mean when your Vinted account is locked or on hold?
If you cannot log in, Vinted’s login help page lists three on-hold states: Vinted may need to verify your phone number with a 4-digit code, the account may be locked after suspicious activity, or it may be blocked. Vinted can lock an account automatically, or at your request, to stop someone else using it.
To unlock it, send proof of ownership through the Contact us button. Either photograph the payment card you use on Vinted beside a handwritten note of your username and the date, showing the names, last 4 digits, expiry date and card type, or send a bank statement showing earlier Vinted charges or withdrawals in the name on your Vinted Balance. Cover the full card number, the CVV and anything else not asked for.
Warning · Check the notice really came from Vinted
Vinted’s phishing page warns that scammers threaten account blocks to rush people into opening links. Vinted emails come from addresses ending in @vinted.co.uk, its official account carries a badge, and it does not ask for your phone number or card details during email verification. Forward anything suspicious to phishing@vinted.com.
How long does a Vinted restriction last?
Vinted publishes no single length. A restriction tied to a check lasts until you complete it, and for rule breaches the Catalogue Rules give 7 days as their example of a suspension. A temporary ban lifts automatically after 7 to 30 days depending on the reason, with the end date shown when you log in, and is not lifted early without evidence of a mistake. If a date you were given has passed, contact Vinted through the Help Centre and quote it. How long a Vinted appeal takes explains what each status means while you wait.
When does a Vinted restriction become a ban?
Vinted’s pages set out the steps up. A counterfeit listing gets the account suspended and repeated fakes get it blocked for good. Commercial selling can bring a restriction, then a permanent ban if a warning is ignored. Repeatedly ignoring Vinted’s messages without doing what they ask is a ban reason in its own right, and the easiest one to avoid.
Once a notice says the account is blocked, or you want to challenge a decision such as a removed listing, you are into the appeal. The link is in the decision message in your Vinted inbox or email, and Vinted allows one appeal per decision, within 6 months. Write it with the ban appeal guide open, because a rushed message uses up your only appeal. If you have only been told the account is under review, Vinted says that should be resolved shortly, and there is nothing to appeal yet.
What should you avoid while your account is restricted?
- Do not open a second account to keep selling. Vinted allows one standard and one Pro account per person, and accounts created after a ban are banned too.
- Do not start a chargeback with your bank before contacting Vinted. Its chargeback page says that may get your account restricted.
- Do not delete and relist items to get round a hidden listing, or move buyers off Vinted to finish a sale.
- Do not pay anyone who offers to lift a restriction. The notice, its appeal link and the Help Centre are the routes Vinted provides.
Stock also listed on eBay and Depop keeps selling meanwhile, and the cross-listing guide covers the setup. The guide to avoiding a Vinted ban covers what leads to the next restriction.
