Why we called it
Valve's first console hardware since the Steam Deck did not sell out in the usual sense — it was never freely purchasable. Buying one requires an existing Steam account with a purchase made before 27 April, entry into a randomised queue, and then a 72-hour window to complete once selected. That barrier is precisely why resale held up weeks after launch: most people simply cannot buy one.
The call broke it down by configuration rather than quoting a single number, because the spread differs across all four. The 2TB with controller was the strongest at £1,208 in and around £1,500 out, with some sales touching £1,600 when the extra faceplates were included and kept sealed.
